    Currently

    Principle instructor for ‘Functional Training Specialist’ program offered by Fitness Institute International as well as adjunct professor for Florida Atlantic University in the Department of Exercise Science. Carlos is the director and CEO of the Institute of Human Performance (IHP) in Boca Raton, Florida where his training methodologies have been successfully applied to the full spectrum of the population: youth, geriatrics, rehabilitation and elite athletes. Carlos has authored numerous articles, books and videos on various topics involving optimum physical performance.

    Professional Experience

    Prior to establishing IHP, Carlos founded Optimum Performance Systems (OPS) through which he trained athletes as well as the general population in personal training. Carlos has taught Sports Training Systems and Strength Training at Florida Atlantic University and is currently involved in several ongoing research projects.

    Committees/Awards

    Carlos’s professional responsibilities have included serving as the Chairman of the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Sport Specific Conference, the NSCA Florida State Director and as a member of the NSCA Conference Committee. Currently he serves as the Vice-President of the NSCA Board of Directors. He has also been involved in the certification programs for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and USA Weightlifting. Carlos is a past recipient of Fitness Institute’s annual award for Personal Trainer of the year, and his Institute for Human Performance has also received an award as the 2002 Outstanding South Florida Fitness Facility.

    Consulting/Speaking Experience

    Carlos currently consults for various college and professional teams, governmental agencies, educational institutions as well as equipment manufacturers. His energetic approach to life and advanced knowledge of conditioning have made him a sought after national as well as international speaker and consultant. Carlos is currently the Sport Specific Conditioning editor for the NSCA Journal.

    Member/Certifications

    Carlos is a member and certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the NSCA and a member and certified Health Fitness Instructor (HFI) with the ACSM. He is also a certified Senior Coach and Club Coach course instructor with the USA Weightlifting and, additionally, a LEVEL I coach with the USA Track and Field Association.
